Tiger Woods Makes Opinion On PGA Tour’s New CEO Clear originally appeared on The Spun.
The PGA Tour has a new CEO now that Jay Monahan is leaving. Brian Rolapp is the new man in charge of the tour now. But what does golf legend Tiger Woods think of him?
Very excited, as it turns out. Taking to social media this morning, Woods congratulated Rolapp on his new position and thanked Monahan for his contributions to the organization.
“Congrats to Brian on becoming CEO of the PGA TOUR. I’m excited about where the TOUR is headed. And a big thank you to Jay for everything he’s done for our game and for the players and fans,” Woods wrote on X.
In a press release, Woods called Rolapp’s appointment “a win for players and fans.”
“Brian’s appointment is a win for players and fans,” he said in a press release. “He has a clear respect for the game and our players and brings a fresh perspective from his experience in the NFL. I’m excited about what’s ahead—and confident that with Brian’s leadership, we’ll continue to grow the TOUR in ways that benefit everyone who loves this sport.”
Rolapp rose to prominence as a market analyst before becoming NBC Universal’s Director of Business Development in New York City.
But his real claim to fame over the past 20 years has been his role with the NFL Network and NFL Media. Since 2014 he has been the Executive Vice President of NFL Media and the CEO and president of the NFL Network.
There was even a time where Rolapp seemed primed to be NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s successor. But now he’s got his own sports league that he can run without having to wait.
“I’m honored to join the PGA TOUR at such a pivotal time,” Rolapp said in a press release. “The PGA TOUR represents the highest level of competition, integrity and global opportunity in the game of golf, and I believe deeply in the TOUR’s mission and its potential to grow even stronger. I’m ready to get to work—alongside our players, partners and leadership team—to build lasting value and deliver an even more dynamic future for the sport and our fans.”
It’s a new era in PGA Tour golf.
