A Profound Encounter: Enzo Mallorca’s Dolphin Rescue
The famous Italian diver Enzo Mallorca was diving in the sea near Syracuse with his daughter Rossana, who stayed on the boat. As he descended into the depths, he felt something lightly hit him on the back. Turning around, he saw a dolphin. It was clear the dolphin wasn’t playing but trying to communicate something urgent.
The dolphin dived deeper, and Enzo followed. At about 12 feet, he discovered another dolphin trapped in an abandoned net. Reacting quickly, Enzo signaled to his daughter for a diving knife. In a matter of minutes, they managed to free the dolphin. As it broke free, it let out a sound that Enzo described as an “almost human cry,” reflecting its relief and gratitude.
Dolphins can survive underwater for up to ten minutes before they risk drowning. The freed dolphin, still dazed, was guided to the surface by Enzo, Rossana, and the concerned companion dolphin. To their surprise, they soon realized that the rescued dolphin was pregnant and about to give birth.
Shortly after reaching the surface, the dolphin gave birth. The dolphin father swam around Enzo in a circle, then approached him and touched his cheek in a gesture that felt like a kiss of thanks. With that, the dolphins swam away, leaving a profound impact on Enzo and Rossana.
