Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll are making a major life change.

McIlroy, 36, revealed in an interview with Telegraph Sport on Wednesday, May 7, that he and Stoll, 37, along with their daughter Poppy, will move into their newly-built home in the United Kingdom once he finishes competing in the US Open. The family will be moving to the U.K. from Florida.

The Irish golfer — who won the Masters tournament last month in a victory over Justin Rose — and his wife purchased the plot of land in Wentworth in 2023, the Telegraph Sport reported at the time, and the home is finally ready for the family to move in, McIlroy told the outlet.

“Straight after Augusta we traveled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches,” McIlroy told Telegraph Sport at Philadelphia Cricket Club on Wednesday.

McIlroy said it was “fun to see” their new home during the visit, and although they “could have stayed in it,” he and Stoll “wanted to get over to Holywood,” the town in Northern Ireland where McIlroy is from.

McIlroy said the new home will serve as the family’s “base” while he competes, and they plan to move in after the US Open concludes on June 15.

McIlroy returned to Holywood in Ireland following his Masters victory. He told Telegraph Sport it was “amazing” to spend time there. “But I didn’t want any fanfare,” he said. “I tried to keep it as private as possible. I just wanted to see my parents and the people closest to me.”

The Masters champ had “a really nice few days” with his family during the visit, and he even became emotional on the trip. “With my dad, I never get that emotional, but it was great to see him. Then when I saw my mom, yeah, we were both a mess for a few minutes,” McIlroy shared.

“As time goes on and I’m getting older, I realize that they’re not going to be around forever and it means even more that they were still around to see me fulfill my dream,” he added.

Stoll and McIlroy went through a rocky phase in the public eye last year when the golfer filed for divorce on May 13, 2024. On June 11, 2024, McIlroy’s attorney filed a notice of voluntary dismissal of the divorce in Palm Beach County Court.

McIlroy explained the decision in an interview with The Guardian on the same day as his attorney’s filing.

“There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate,” he said. “Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

McIlroy and Stoll’s near-divorce and reconciliation were addressed in season 3 of Netflix’s Full Swing. In one confessional, McIlroy said he “struggled with trying to be the best golfer, the best husband, the best dad,” when discussing the rough patch with Stoll.

“There’s parts of my life I like to keep as private as possible,” he explained in the series. “Unfortunately, in this line of work, that isn’t always possible. I have always been protective of my loved ones from people who have ill intentions.”
