A San Antonio man is in the hospital after being beaten by a bat, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

At about 1:48 a.m. on Sunday morning, August 11, a man and some family members were at a bar near the 4800 block of South Flores, but were thrown out, the SAPD said. Police did not provide a reason for them being thrown out of the bar.

The man and family members left the bar in separate vehicles and drove down the block before puling over to talk to each other. While talking, the SAPD said someone else had followed them from the bar, pulled up to the scene and started beating the man with a bat. That’s when the man’s sister pulled out a gun and started shooting toward her brother’s attacker, according to the SAPD.

When the SAPD had arrived on-scene, the attacker or attackers had already fled. SAPD did not mention how many people were involved in the altercation.

The man was taken to the hospital by Emergency Medical Services in stable condition, the San Antonio Police Department said. Police added they are trying to determine if the man was stabbed during the altercation or was accidentally shot in the melee.

No other injuries were reported from the altercation. The San Antonio Police Department is still investigating the incident.
