Cunningham and Jacy Sheldon didn’t hold back during Tuesday night’s game between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun.

In the third quarter of the Fever-Sun game, Sheldon received a flagrant-1 foul for poking Caitlin Clark in the eye. Caitlin pushed her, and Marina Mabrey pushed Clark down to the ground.

The altercations were not over just yet.

As Sheldon was attempting a layup in the final seconds of the game, Cunningham grabbed her by the head/neck area and brought her to the ground. That led to a scuffle breaking out in front of the fans.

After reviewing Cunningham’s foul on Sheldon, the refs gave her a flagrant-2 and ejected her from the game.

Sophie Cunningham has essentially become a fan favorite, as everyone could see that she was taking up for what happened to Caitlin Clark earlier in the game.

As a result of her actions, her followers on social media have exploded.

On TikTok, Cunningham’s followers went from over 300,000 to 624,000.

The women’s basketball community is still buzzing about Tuesday’s feisty game between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun.

While the Fever ultimately won the game easily, the storylines that followed were about several physical altercations that led to multiple technical fouls and ejections.

The WNBA revealed what punishments several players would receive for their roles in this intense game.

“Marina Mabrey’s technical from last night’s Fever-Sun game has been upgraded to a flagrant 2, the league told ESPN.

“A flagrant 2 comes from a standard fine,” ESPN’s Alexa Philippou wrote in an X post.

“Additionally, Sophie Cunningham was fined separately for her hard foul with 46 secs to play.”

“No players will be suspended.”
