Amanda Balionis Breaks Silence on Rory McIlroy Slight
She shut down the trolls.
Over the weekend Rory McIlroy made headlines when he turned down requests for interviews all four days during the PGA Championship.
Not long after his decision, CBS reporter Amanda Balionis shared a post celebrating golfers Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, who both had a chance to take down Scottie Scheffler, the eventually PGA Championship winner, for sitting down with her after coming so close to a win.
“Appreciate these two for taking the time to talk after a gutting loss,” she started in the post showing DeChambeau and Rahm. “Simply a reminder that no one is obligated to talk, it’s a choice. And to bring us in after coming so close to a career accomplishment is awesome for the viewer.”
Fans on social media perceived the post as a slight at McIlroy for opting out of media availability during the tournament. “Bryson just met with Amanda Balionis, who may have thrown some shade at Rory and others skipping media. ‘We appreciate the time. You don’t have to do this,’” golf personality Jake Weaver pointed out.
There were a number of more unsavory messages regarding Balionis and McIlroy that may have caught the attention of the former. In a new message on her Instagram story, Balionis shared a post with the caption: “I don’t really take criticism to heart from people I don’t admire and respect.”
She included a message of her own: “Monday reminder of all my fellow recovering people pleasers. Needed this one today.”
Those who believe her message celebrating DeChambeau and Rahm will always want to believe it was about McIlroy, but Balionis seems to suggest otherwise with her latest social media post.
