GTA 6 will officially be unplayable to millions when it launches in 2025

Spare a thought for the consoles that just can’t keep up

Grand Theft Auto VI is surely one of the most anticipated video games ever, not least because it’s been over a frigging decade since the last one came out.

That’s not to say that Rockstar Games hasn’t kept us well supplied with entertainment in the meantime, Red Dead Redemption 2 was a chuffing good time, but the children, they yearn for more Grand Theft Auto and we’re finally getting it.

Soon enough, anyway, as the game is meant to be releasing in ‘Fall 2025’, which means Autumn to us Brits.

While GTA 6 is likely more than a year away from releasing it’s time to confront the elephant in the room, the fact that millions of gamers who want to give it a go will find it unplayable when it launches.

That’s because they simply won’t have the hardware to play GTA 6, as it’ll be releasing on the latest generation of consoles next year and PC gamers will have to wait in line behind the console-owning peasants for their own version.

However, it’s not going to coming to the consoles which many gamers have been getting by with for years, namely the PS4 and Xbox One.

When they announced the game’s release, Rockstar said in a press release: “Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X/S games and entertainment systems in 2025.”

Let’s be serious, the PS4 and Xbox One released all the way back in 2013 which for those of you like me wanting to hope that time isn’t rushing by quite so relentlessly was 11 years ago.

Have you seen the trailer for GTA 6? You can’t be expecting old hardware like the previous generation of consoles to be keeping up with that.

Never mind trying to render an entire busy, open world which the player can traverse at great speeds.

Are you going to try and make an Xbox One render all that? Good luck. (Rockstar Games)

You would be asking a console that could be over 11 years old to try and play GTA6, a frankly unreasonable request to make of the things.

If you tried to force them to play GTA6 they’d probably send you a message of resignation before exploding in protest at your unjust treatment of them.

In fact, speaking of age, the consoles you can play GTA6 on at launch will be almost five years old themselves with the PS5 and the latest generation of Xbox going on sale near the end of 2020.

Barring any major delays in development, GTA6 will release before the next generation of consoles releases and it seems as though you’ll have to have your PS5 or Xbox Series X/S ready if you wish to be among the first to play it.

PC gamers will likely have to wait a little while for their version, and presumably shortly thereafter the modding community will begin churning out some wonderful alterations to the game.
