Godai Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant will close after 19 years

“This year just took a toll on me mentally and physically.”

“I want to really thank everyone that has supported us for all the years, but it has come time to not say goodbye but see y’all soon again!” Pitchford wrote in a Facebook post. The restaurant owner went on to explain that Saturday, August 31, will be the final day of dining service at Godai for the time being.

MySA reached out to Pitchford to find out more about the future of Godai. In a phone conversation, the chef told us that he does plan to relaunch the business down the line but in a different capacity with a smaller menu selection, which will include some of his wife’s Korean dishes. Pitchford said that he will start off doing to-go orders and will test the waters from there.

Chef William “Goro” Pitchford launched Godai Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant in 2005, growing the business into a San Antonio sushi staple over the years. On Tuesday, August 28, the beloved sushi chef announced that Godai will be closing after 19 years.
